A Coaster Video Review by: Ted Cromwell (CoasterFanatic)
Once again, Robb and Elissa Alvey (along with a strong supporting cast) takes us on a journey
outside the United States and into coaster oblivion. This years target ... Mainland Europe and
Scandanavia!
Disc 1
From the first shots of "VekomaLand" to the Paris finale, Theme Park Review brings it's unique
blend of humor along with a great assortment of coasters to your living room. Join the gang as
they encounter everything from "Acceptable levels of wetness" to the hottest McDonalds employee
on the planet.
Along with tons of Boomerang and SLC footage you will find such gems as Loop Garou, Robin Hood, Goliath, Falken, Thunder Coaster, Kanonen, Balder, Daemonen, Vildsvinet, Colossos, Winjas, Expedition G-Force, Silver Star, Euro-Mir, Katun, Sierra Adventure, and more! But this video (at least this disc) is not all about the coasters, but about the park experience as a whole. You will get a chance to laugh along as Robb's keen eye grabs all of the unique traits that make these parks so special.
The highlights are almost too numerous to mention, but everyone will find humor in some of the segments.
They reach down into our inner-most child and teach us how to laugh all over.
Disc 2 - Ride Footage
As has become customary with the Alvey videos, the second disc is dedicated strictly to ride footage.
With a little help from the parks, you can follow the gang as they get shots using techniques and
locations never before seen. Many of the shots taken are professional POV style shots created with the aid of a
fixed camera secured to the coaster train. When the video isn't featuring POV shots, there are many
other great angles shot everywhere from mid-course brake runs to lift hills and even climbing to the
top of Euro-Mir's towers.
But the fun doesn't end there, not only does the second disc feature great coaster footage, but it also
has great walkthroughs of Europe's unique collection of dark rides. From shoot-em-ups to questionable
"water coaster" credits you will get a sneak peak into some of the "other" rides.
Disc 3 - ThemeParkReview.Com Contest Entries
Last year, ThemeParkReview.Com held a video contest and welcomed the entire Internet community to
participate in the fun. The first years entries were bundled with "Volume 5 - Japanamania", and
ThemeParkReview.Com has continued the tradition by adding this years entries as part of this Three-Disc
set.
This year, amateur coaster videographers from all over the world shared some clever videos and a couple even cross a fine line over into Independent cinema. The general theme is just friends having fun at amusement parks and the videos are all very enjoyable to watch and offer a different approach than Discs 1 and 2.
Since there was a much larger response to the contest this year over last year's, the videos in Disc 3 only represent half of this years entries. Look for the rest in a DVD to be released later this year.
