4800 Kennywood Blvd.
West Mifflin, Pennsylvania
United States
Opened: 1898
Kennywood was started in 1898 as a trolley park. Trolley parks were popular around the turn of the century as ways to get people on the empty trolleys on the weekends by drawing them to attractions. Throughout it’s long history Kennywood’s attractions have included large pools, big band concerts, and some of the first switchback railways. In the roller coaster’s golden age, Kennywood was at the forefront with three roller coaster designs created by the legendary coaster designer Jon Miller. The Racer, Jack Rabbit, and Pippin were legends in their time and are all still standing today (the Thunderbolt still maintains portions of the original Pippin).
Even today, Kennywood is still one of the finest amusement parks in the country. Each year they draw large crowds by offering new, and cutting edge rides while still maintaining a low ticket price.
